Distractions could be fatal!!

Focus, yet another crucial ingredient to get that perfectly cooked recipe of success.

‘Starve your distraction and feed your focus.’ When it comes to getting things done, this formula set by Charmaine Hayden is the best one to follow. Just imagine being distracted while cooking, you might end up baking a salty cake. OR even worse, imagine feeding your distraction while driving through busy traffic. The result could be fatal. What I am trying to emphasize here is that Focus is not something that is to be saved for that ultimate goal. But it is something we need to have it in our everyday life.

We all know what focus really is, don’t we?

Well, it is our ability to concentrate on something in order to get it accomplished. That concentration power is a focus.

If you have a goal you need the focus to get there. And if you have the focus you will get to your goal for sure. Here it wouldn’t be wrong if I say, goal and focus complement each other. But this concentration power doesn’t come easy to everybody. Because we humans are exceptionally volatile up there in our brain box.  It cannot stick to a place for long. Which of course, is understood; how can a mind not get distracted when you have so many temptations calling you? Since we know that this “power to focus’ has not been defaulted in our brains, we have to train them if we want to get to our desired destination.

Yes, we can UPSKILL our focus….

Oprah Winfrey an American media proprietor had once said  “Concentration can be cultivated. One can learn to exercise willpower, discipline one’s body, and train one’s mind.

Like muscles, even our brain needs some workout for better functioning. And reading is, without doubt, the best brain exercise.  But here too concentration issue doesn’t let us do it.  Take for an instant, you are in the middle of an article, and suddenly you are hit by the urge of clicking the other tab blinking next to it.  This urge is needed to be checked, and it can be checked if you train your brain that way.

Slow and steady wins the race. We all grew up hearing the story on this, and this is absolutely true when it comes to achieving anything in life. It also can be applied to upskilling focal ability.

How to train our minds?

Do you already have a goal? Great!!!

If not, figure out what is that one thing that interests you the most.

Focus completely depends on the depth of your desire to get things done. Your interest gives the fifty percent of your concentration, now you are left with the rest fifty percent to hit the mark.

To get that rest of the 50% you first need to figure out the distractions that bother you the most. Social media is one such thing that leads the race. So make sure you keep yourself away from it when you are working. Once you get rid of that you will be left with the environment suitable for you to get started.

This is not enough, the real challenge is to deal with your mind and its questions.

“Is this even worth the effort?”

“do I really have to do this?”

“I am doing well with the way things are now, why take this risk?”

“What if this doesn’t work?”

These are the thoughts you need to settle down first. Because these self-doubts always weaken us every way.

Have you realized where do these voices really come from?

Remember they are the echo of what you hear from people. Those are the people who have never chased their dreams, those who never had a goal in life. And your mind now already started believing them and repeating their words.

It is your belief in you and your dreams that are going to help you get the focus to achieve them. So don’t accept people’s opinions about you. No one knows you better than yourself.

And avoid overthinking. To think about something we are not sure is going to happen, do you think it is good? You are actually wasting your time and energy on something that might not happen at all.

It is very important to keep our minds free of all these unnecessary thoughts to get that focus.

Let’s look at the benefits of being focused.

A focused mind is a relaxed mind. Complete engrossment in getting the work done gives you a sense of achievement at the end of the day. You will be able to enjoy every bit of it.

Se here in achieving your goal we should abide by what Paulo Coelho says, “Whenever you want to achieve something, keep your eyes open, concentrate and make sure you know exactly what it is you want. No one can hit their target with their eyes closed.”
